"My Battle with Hurricane Sandy"

Hurricane Sandy hit us hard
It left a lot of debris in my yard
The electricity on my block went out quite early
The power lines were hit by a tree that was rather burly

We didn't have school for a week
The clean-up outlook looked bleak
All I really did was sleep
There nothing else to do, so I wanted to weep

The biggest issue was a lack of fuel
Without it, the generators were a useless tool
I waited in line for what seemed forever
All I got out of it was 5 gallons, what a useless endeavor!

We went to go stay at my cousins place
Our home was without power and it was a disgrace
It took four days for my dreams to come true
The power was back and yelled, "Woohoo!"

  1. Your poem put me in a good mood after reading it. You seemed really excited after you got power back. I am thankful that I never lost power.
